NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. (AP) — Authorities are trying to determine if a fire at a North Las Vegas church was the act of an arsonist.
Police as well as the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are investigating a blaze that broke out early Friday at Holy Trinity AME Church.
The Rev. Cynthia Pitts says a passer-by in the area of Fifth and Lake Mead called 911.
She says the damage from the fire was mostly in the entrance area. The front door and curtain drapes were burned.
Services were able to proceed later in the day.
Police have not said whether they think the fire could be a hate crime against the predominantly black church.
Pitts says church officials are not letting the incident keep them from continuing regular activities.
