Coroner: Vegas Woman, 63, Dead After Snorkeling at Lake Mead

BOULDER CITY, Nev. (AP) — Authorities in Las Vegas have identified a 63-year-old Las Vegas woman who died while swimming during the weekend at Lake Mead.

The Clark County coroner said Monday that it’ll take several weeks to determine a cause of death for Bonnie Wong.

The National Park Service says she became unconscious while snorkeling with friends in the Overton Arm of the reservoir, and that rangers and paramedics couldn’t resuscitate her.

The incident was the second death in two days at the Colorado River reservoir behind Hoover Dam.

An off-duty Florida police officer died Saturday after becoming unconscious while scuba diving at the wreck of a military B-29 aircraft that crashed in the lake in 1948.

The coroner says a cause of death for 48-year-old Fred Thomas Arnold III is pending.
