GEORGE NOORY IN LAS VEGAS: Get tickets now -- be there June 9!

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A county official says a dog that fatally mauled a 9-year-old boy in Las Vegas has been euthanized.

Clark County spokesman Dan Kulin said the 3-year-old pit bull mixed-breed was killed Thursday morning after officials determined it wouldn’t be allowed to be adopted.

It had been surrendered by its owners to county animal control officers, and Kulin says the dog’s name was Left Eye.

Las Vegas Police Officer Jesse Roybal says the child died at Sunrise Hospital & Medical Center of injuries following the dog attack, which occurred at about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at a home in a neighborhood about 8 miles east of downtown.

The boy’s name wasn’t immediately made public.

Roybal says the dog was a family pet at a home where the boy was visiting.

He says detectives are investigating what happened before the attack.
