LAS VEGAS (AP) — A Las Vegas-area school police officer has been acquitted of federal charges accusing him of attacking a student and a school staff member and trying to cover it up.
U.S. District Judge Jennifer Dorsey found James Lescinsky not guilty on Friday of charges including deprivation of rights under color of law, tampering with a witness and falsifying a document.
Trial took a week. The 45-year-old Clark County School District police officer decided not to have the case heard by a jury.
He could have faced decades in prison in the May 2015 lunchroom fight at a North Las Vegas high school for students assessed with behavior problems
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports the judge cited conflicts between what witnesses said happened and what surveillance tapes showed.
