LAS VEGAS (AP) — Three people are dead and two were critically hurt in a weekend crash and fire involving a van on Interstate 15 outside Las Vegas.

Assistant Clark County Fire Chief Larry Haydu says the crash was reported just after 3 p.m. Sunday on the southbound freeway near Valley of Fire State Park and Moapa.

Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Jason Buratczuk says it appears the people in the vehicle weren’t wearing seatbelts, because several were thrown from it when it careened off the road and tumbled into the desert.

The male driver, a female passenger and a male passenger were pronounced dead on the scene. Their names and hometowns weren’t immediately made public.

A man and a woman were flown by medical helicopter to University Medical Center in Las Vegas.
