LAS VEGAS (AP) — Las Vegas police say one of its search dogs that had been scheduled for retirement has died unexpectedly.
The police department reported in a Facebook post that the K9, named Boris, died hours after completing a search Monday morning. His cause of death has not been released.
The 10-year-old dog had been handled by Officer DuWayne Layton.
Police say Boris had been well known at Marc Kahre Elementary School, where he made several appearances with Layton.
The online post says Boris had been getting ready to retire soon at a 2.5-acre site in Washington.
The police department called him a “trusted friend and partner.”
