LAS VEGAS (AP) — The marquee event of the World Series of Poker begins this weekend in Las Vegas, with up to 7,000 players expected, including the top names in the poker world and several sports stars and celebrities.
The buy-in is $10,000 for the most visible of tournaments. The game is No-limit Texas Hold ‘Em, and play begins Saturday, Sunday and Monday at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino.
The field will be whittled down to a final table July 18, with nine players then taking take a break before returning Oct. 30 for the Main Event championship.
Past winners including Phil Hellmuth, Scotty Nguyen and Chris Ferguson might be joined by actors like James Woods, Ray Romano, Brad Garrett and Jennifer Tilly.
