Trooper Hurt Directing Traffic at Hoover Dam Bridge Backup

LAS VEGAS (AP) — The Nevada Highway Patrol says a trooper was seriously injured when he was hit by a tour bus that was backing up in a 5-hour traffic jam created when a woman threatened to jump from the Hoover Dam bypass bridge.

Trooper Jason Buratczuk said Tuesday the injured officer was hospitalized with head injuries after the incident a little before 10 a.m. on State Highway 172.

That’s the winding road to Hoover Dam from U.S. 93 in Nevada.

The former U.S. 93 route to the dam on the Arizona side is no longer open.

The name of the injured trooper wasn’t immediately made public.

Buratczuk says the driver of the tour bus was questioned, but it wasn’t immediately clear if any citations were issued.
