Las Vegas-Area Air Advisory Extended Due to Wildfire Smoke

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Public health officials in Las Vegas have extended an air quality advisory due to smoke from wildfires in California and in mountains west of Las Vegas.

The Clark County Department of Air Quality said Tuesday that elevated levels of ozone and smoke could remain in the air through Thursday.

Advisories began last week about smoke wafting into southern Nevada from wildfires outside Los Angeles and the Kern County mountain town of Lake Isabella, in the Sierra Nevada.

Firefighters say they’re close to containing a wildfire of almost three-fourths of a square mile in Lovell Canyon, about 25 miles west of Las Vegas.

Officials say people with respiratory illnesses, cardiac disease, young children and senior citizens can stay indoors and limit outdoor exercise to avoid exposure to unhealthy air.
