Woman Sought in 2009 Hawaii Slaying Arrested in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Authorities say a woman sought in Hawaii in the fatal shooting of a 21-year-old woman in June 2009 has been arrested in Las Vegas.

U.S. marshals say 54-year-old Patricia Hanoa Wong was arrested Monday a few blocks east of the Las Vegas Strip on a warrant issued following her indictment this month by a grand jury in Hilo, Hawaii.

Wong was sought in the death of Kaycee Maile Smith in Puna, Hawaii.

Authorities haven’t said what led to the killing at Smith’s home, but a police report said the crime scene had been altered to make the death appear to have been a suicide.

Wong was being held at the Clark County jail in Las Vegas pending a court extradition hearing and her transfer in custody to Hawaii.
