Henderson, Nev. – The Henderson Police Department is proud to announce the graduation this morning of 23 police officers and three corrections officers from the Southern Desert Regional Police Academy.
“We should be proud of all these men and women who have decided to make a difference in their communities by serving as law enforcement officers,” Henderson Police Chief Patrick Moers said.
The Southern Desert Regional Police Academy is a consortium between the Henderson Police Department, the North Las Vegas Police Department, the Las Vegas Department of Public Safety, and the College of Southern Nevada.
The recruit peace officers received more than 720 hours of academic and practical training on various topics including police ethics, criminal law, diversity, defensive tactics, firearms, principles of investigation, community policing, and emergency vehicle operations during the 22-week academy.
The Henderson Police corrections and police officers will attend a five-week advanced academy following graduation and then complete a 14- and 17-week field training program respectively.
