Republican House Primary Gets Uglier With Dark Money Ads

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Southern Nevada residents will have a hard time escaping the ugliness of the Republican primary in the 3rd Congressional District over the next few days.

The race intensified in the week before Election Day when a dark money group called Ending Spending dumped nearly $1.6 million into ads for the race.

About half a million dollars will go to promote state Sen. Michael Roberson, and three quarters of a million dollars will go to oppose his primary rival Danny Tarkanian.

The two are trading attack ads that throw out the names “two-faced Michael Roberson” and “Dirty Danny.”

The candidates are vying for a chance to replace U.S. Senate candidate and three-term Republican Rep. Joe Heck. The district includes Henderson and Summerlin and is divided nearly evenly between Democrats and Republicans.
