LAS VEGAS (AP) — A Las Vegas Wal-Mart store is among one of 269 locations the retail giant plans to close.
A Wal-Mart supercenter at 4350 N. Nellis Boulevard will shut its doors by 7 p.m. on Sunday.
Wal-Mart spokeswoman Delia Garcia says the store’s 350 employees will be given opportunities to transfer to other stores. She says those who aren’t immediately placed will get 60 days pay and help finding new jobs.
More than half of the stores on the closure list are in the U.S, with another large chunk in the challenging Brazilian market.
Most of the 154 U.S. locations are small format stores called Walmart Express, which were launched as a test program in 2011.
The announcement comes amid increasing competition from all fronts, including from online rival Amazon.com.
