CASA GRANDE, Ariz. (CBS Las Vegas) – A woman was arrested after police say she staged her disappearance because she felt overwhelmed having to plan her boyfriend’s birthday party.
Pinal County Sheriff Deputies arrested Jennifer Alvarez after they say she staged her abduction.
According to KTVK-TV, Alvarez’s boyfriend called 911 after he found blood inside his home. He told police that Alvarez was missing along with two guns.
The story got complicated when investigators heard two different sides of the story. First, a man called the sheriff’s office to tell them that Alvarez stayed at his house the night before. He went on to tell deputies that he was going to take Alvarez home, but instead dropped her off at a house in Arizona City.
Deputies found Alvarez at her home, and according to KTVK, she told a different story.
According to Jim Knupp, a sheriff’s office spokesperson, Alvarez felt overwhelmed by the thought of having to plan her boyfriend’s birthday party so she left.
Alvarez told deputies that two men came to her home, and when one asked to use the restroom, he stole the two guns, according to Knupp.
According to Knupp, Alvarez later told another version of the story before admitting to staging the whole thing.
“The Sheriff’s Office and Casa Grande Police expended many hours and our full attention to locate her, when we could have been working other cases,” Sheriff Paul Babeu said in a news release obtained by KTVK. “At the conclusion of this investigation, we intend to file charges against Alvarez.”
