LAS VEGAS (AP) — A former Las Vegas doctor accused of illegally selling prescription painkillers to undercover agents in a hospital parking lot has been ordered to 44 months in prison.
Federal prosecutors say 44-year-old Vinay Bararia was sentenced Tuesday after pleading guilty in December to one count of distributing a controlled substance.
Bararia admitted to illegally selling 500 hydrocodone pills to an undercover Drug Enforcement Administration agent outside Centennial Hills Hospital in 2011. Prosecutors say he took about $1100 for the medicine.
He also acknowledged illegally distributing thousands of oxycodone pills.
Bararia surrendered his Nevada medical license last year. A judge also ordered him to forfeit $50,000 in cash and a 2007 Jaguar that prosecutors say he used to distribute the drugs.
