Nevada Team Heads To Little League World Series
LAS VEGAS (AP) — For the first time, a Nevada team is heading to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
Mountain Ridge scored nine first-inning runs en route to an 11-2 victory over Pacifica, California, on Saturday night in San Bernardino, California.
With the win, the Las Vegas team became the West champion and one of eight teams to advance to the World Series.
While Little League pays for the players and coaches to make the trip east, any parents wanting to watching their sons play are having to cough up big money for last minute travel, not to mention the daily expenses of being on the road.
So Mountain Ridge is asking for your help. There will be a community event at their local field starting at 6pm Tuesday where anyone who wants to help can stop by. That’s north of the 215 Beltway near Durango on a street called Oso Blanco. Here is the league’s map with directions: Mountain Ridge Little League Park.
The team will open against the Midwest champion from Rapid City, South Dakota, at 4 p.m. Thursday. The game will be televised on ESPN2.
The Little League World Series began in 1947.
