State High Court Weighs In On Lawsuit Against Sands Corp
CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — The Nevada Supreme Court has upheld a judge’s order for Las Vegas Sands Corp. attorneys to produce unredacted documents in an ongoing civil lawsuit filed by the ousted former chief of the company’s Macau operations.
The court ruled Thursday that parties in a lawsuit can’t cite foreign countries’ privacy laws to avoid complying with a Nevada court order.
Sands attorneys had argued that turning over documents without redacting personal information would violate Macau law.
The dispute stems from former executive Steven Jacobs’ work in Macau for Sands subsidiary Sands China Ltd.
Jacobs filed a wrongful-termination suit in 2010 and accused Sands of misdeeds including doing business with gangsters and making inappropriate payments to an attorney who was a Macau lawmaker.
The case continues in Clark County District Court.
