Bail Set For Former Nevada Assemblyman

Steven Brooks expelled from legislature in 2013

LAS VEGAS — A former Nevada lawmaker who spent 16 months in jail for fighting with California police after a high-speed freeway chase was in a Las Vegas courtroom Thursday morning  to face criminal charges resulting from an earlier arrest.

Steven Brooks was returned Tuesday in custody from San Bernardino County after pleading no contest in March to evading a peace officer and resisting arrest, records show. A California judge on July 25 sentenced Brooks to time served since his arrest the day he was expelled from the Nevada Legislature in March 2013.

A Las Vegas Justice Of The Peace set bail at $50,000 for the 42-year-old Democrat from North Las Vegas on felony and misdemeanor charges stemming from a February 2013 arrest here. He’s accused of trying to grab a police officer’s gun during a domestic dispute call.
