LAS VEGAS, NV – Another fight weekend descends on the Las Vegas Valley.
Canelo Alvarez (43-1-1, 31 KOs) rebounded from his only defeat in 44 fights last year to Floyd Mayweather Jr by stopping Alfredo Angulo four months ago at the MGM Grand. Saturday night, the 23-year old boxer from Mexico goes toe-to-toe with Cuban fighter Erislandy Lara. Lara is 19-1 with 12 knockouts.
At the final press conference on Thursday inside the Hollywood Theatre at MGM Grand, Golden Boy Promotions founder Oscar De La Hoya described the junior middleweight bout as “The best fighting the best. At 154 pounds, you’re seeing the #1 and #2 guy going at it and they’re going to determine who the very best is.”
There is no championship belt on the line. The bout has been dubbed “Honor & Glory.” One of them will leave the Grand Garden Arena with both on Saturday night.
