( LAS VEGAS, NV ) — Legendary UNLV basketball coach Jerry Tarkanian was honored by the Las Vegas City Council Wednesday morning.

The Las Vegas Senior Citizens Advisory Board has named the 83-year-old Tarkanian the Senior of the Quarter.

His wife, Las Vegas City Councilwoman Lois Tarkanian, and son Danny were expected to accept the award on his behalf because the Hall Of Famer who’s had serious health issues wasn’t expected to show up at the meeting.

But there he was. Frail from recent hospitalizations, Tark remained seated and didn’t speak at the ceremony, although son Danny thanked the city for the award.

Tark is a member of the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame and led three schools to the NCAA tournament, including the 1990 UNLV team that won a national title.
