LAS VEGAS (AP) — A Las Vegas casino worker found dead in her bloody apartment had her wrists tied behind her back and was beaten to death with some kind of an object, police said in a report made public Monday.
Iris Moran, 37, was found dead after a male caller told police around 6:15 a.m. Friday to go to an apartment in a complex off Durango Drive near Sahara Avenue, police and the Clark County coroner said.
Family members and others later identified the caller as Marvin Fernando Moran, her ex-husband.
Police said the caller gave a 911 dispatcher an incorrect apartment number, and Marvin Moran later told homicide investigators the same incorrect number. Officers checked units with similar numbers and found the body.
The couple divorced in February, about a month after police were called to a domestic violence and child abuse call involving Marvin Moran at another address, according to a police arrest report.
Marvin Moran, 36, an El Salvador immigrant, was arrested Friday after he was stopped while driving a Toyota Corolla owned by his ex-wife. He was held without bail at the Clark County jail pending an appearance Wednesday in Las Vegas Justice Court. It wasn’t immediately clear if he had a lawyer.
Police said Iris Moran worked as a housekeeping dispatcher at the MGM Grand hotel-casino and had been dating a co-worker.
Two Moran children, ages 13 and 11, told investigators that their unemployed father had a gambling problem and spent family money in casinos. The children told police that Marvin Moran had been following their mother.
The children, who were staying with their father, told police that they knew their father left the home early Friday. Police said they found fresh blood on a rug, vanity and toilet in the bathroom where Marvin Moran washed up when he returned home.
Police said a downstairs neighbor in Iris Moran’s apartment complex reported hearing screaming and a pounding noise before dawn Friday but said he thought his neighbors were having a fight. He didn’t call police.
