Housing Authority Owes Back Pay

77 Employees Due $425,000

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A state agency that provides housing for low-income families has been ordered to pay back wages after federal officials found it wasn’t properly paying overtime.

The Southern Nevada Regional Housing Authority was ordered to pay $425,000 that it owes to 77 employees.

Officials with the U.S. Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division say the housing authority didn’t pay for hours that employees worked before and after their shifts or during meal breaks.

Investigators also found the agency had classified some employees as salaried and exempt from overtime requirements, even though their duties didn’t qualify as salaried work under the law.
