PHOENIX (CBS Las Vegas) – A suburban Phoenix woman is under arrest after officers found a 3-year-old child dehydrated and unconscious underneath a truck, reports KPHO-TV. Temperatures in the area reached a high of 106 degrees.

Authorities say the child was discovered by a neighbor in a mobile home park in Glendale. Investigators say the child was left in the care of 31-year-old Sarah Nunley.

Nunley told police she was watching the child for her sister, who was at work.

Officers found seven other children in Nunley’s home, ranging from ages 1 through 11. AZ Central reports the children were filthy, appeared to be malnourished and were begging officers for water.

Several knives were found scattered throughout the mobile home.

Police found a pipe in Nunley’s possession and say she admitted to using it to smoke methamphetamines.

The police report says the woman first denied the children were hers, but then admitted to lying because she was afraid they would be taken by Child Protective Services.

The 7 children are now in protective custody. There is no word yet on the condition of the 3-year-old
