(LAS VEGAS, KXNT)–The Board of Regents has narrowly voted to raise tuition at Nevada colleges 4 percent a year, for four years, beginning in 2015.
The fees at UNLV are now 191-dollars and 50 cents per credit. Eventually they’ll be 224 dollars a credit. Coummunity college credits now average 84 dollars and will be 98 dollars by the 2018 school year.
Student groups have fought the increase proposal, many saying they would be unable to finish their education.
Proponents have said the increases are being delayed a year to allow students to prepare and the additional money will bring more and better educators.
The Regents vote was 7-6 after a daylong meeting in Las Vegas.
