DAYTON, Nevada (AP) — Authorities say one person has died from a small plane crash discovered Tuesday afternoon near Dayton Valley Airpark.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office says one person on board was killed in the crash a half-mile west of the airpark on federal land.

Officials have not released the identity of the person or details about whether anyone else was on board the plane.

Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor says the plane was a single-engine homebuilt BD-4 plane.

It’s unclear when or why the crash occurred.

Gregor says another pilot discovered the wreckage of the plane, which was upside down.

The National Transportation Safety Board and FAA are investigating.
