Early Voting Turnout: 7%

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Seven percent of active voters in Nevada have cast their ballot during early voting in the primary election.

A report from the Secretary of State’s office shows that as of midday Tuesday, nearly 78,000 people had participated in either on-site early voting or through a mail-in absentee ballot. Early voting closes Friday, while absentee ballots must be received by election day June 10.

Secretary of State Ross Miller has predicted turnout will be near the record low 18 percent seen in the 2008 primary.

The election is short on high-profile, voter-rousing races. Gov. Brian Sandoval is expected to sail to re-election, and perhaps the most interesting race is a Republican primary for lieutenant governor that’s pitting Sandoval’s choice, Mark Hutchison, against state party-endorsed Sue Lowden.
