( North Las Vegas, NV ) – A three-alarm blaze at a North Las Vegas recycling plant sent thick, black smoke that could be seen across the valley Monday evening.

Over 100 firefighters from 3 local fire departments (North Las Vegas, City of Las Vegas and Clark County) were called out to the Republic Services facility near Gowan and Commerce  around 6pm Monday.  Around 70 employees at the facility were safely evacuated.

It took nearly two hours for crews to put out the fire, made more difficult from compressed combustibles throughout the plant. No one was hurt.

Republic Services says regular trash and recycling pick-ups throughout the valley will not be affected. Employees of the plant were uncertain if they would return to work Tuesday.

The fire started in the plant’s yard and extended to a nearby building.  The cause has been listed as mechanical and accidental.
