Cordish, Findlay Seek Soccer Team

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A company that’s been trying to bring an arena to downtown Las Vegas says it’s now trying to attract Major League Soccer to the city.

Developers with Cordish Companies announced Wednesday that they were partnering on the proposal with Findlay Sports and Entertainment, an entity affiliated with the Henderson-based Findlay car dealership group.

A proposed, 24,000-seat arena would be located in the Symphony Park district, near the Smith Center for the Performing Arts.

The deal would involve Cordish and Findlay buying a soccer franchise, while the City of Las Vegas would own the stadium.

The announcement comes shortly after MGM Resorts broke ground on a privately funded arena on the Las Vegas Strip.

Cordish has been drafting plans for years for a downtown arena that would involve public financing.
