(Las Vegas, NV) — A former clinic manager has taken a plea deal for a health fraud case stemming from the valley’s 2007 hepatitis C outbreak.

Tonya Rushing worked for Dr. Dipak Desai at the Endoscopy Center of Southern Nevada.

Rushing agreed to plead guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit healthcare fraud.  She will pay $50,000 in restitution and could spend 30 months in prison.  She will also share with Desai in forfeiting cash and property totaling $8.1 million.

Her attorneys tell the Las Vegas Review-Journal they can argue for a lighter sentence.

Desai was convicted last July on 27 counts in the hepatitis case.  He’s serving a life prison sentence with a chance for parole.
