Las Vegas, NV – UNLV baseball coach Tim Chambers was tossed from a game in San Diego last weekend. On Monday, the Mountain West Conference announced that he’s been suspended for unintentional contact during the heated exchange.

Intentional or not, the rule states any contact with an umpire earns an automatic four-game suspension which, in this case, is the remainder of the Rebels regular season.

“I regret that I accidentally made contact with the home plate umpire during the game in San Diego,” Chambers said. “I went out to stand up for my guys after a close play at third base and the argument escalated. In no way was I attempting to intentionally come into contact with the umpire. I accept my suspension and know that as the head coach I need to hold myself to a higher standard.”

Associate head coach Stan Stolte will serve as the head coach during the suspension.
