SALT LAKE CITY (AP) â The Bureau of Land Management is warning its workers in Utah to be on alert after two men threatened an agency wrangler on the state’s main highway this week, pulling out a weapon and holding up a sign that read, “You need to die.”
The incident comes at a time of high tension between some Western residents and the BLM. Last month, the agency stopped rounding up the cattle of a Nevada rancher after a showdown with hundreds of his supporters, some of them armed.
And rural Utah ranchers and county leaders have been threatening to break federal law and round up wild horses this summer if the BLM doesn’t do it first. State wildlife officials voted to back up the ranchers.
An investigation of this week’s incident is underway, but there are no suspects.
