Governor Asked To Remove Henderson’s Mayor
LAS VEGAS (AP) — A failed mayoral candidate trying to oust Henderson Mayor Andy Hafen over term limits is asking state officials to intervene and remove him from office.
In a statement issued Friday, Rick Workman’s attorney Stephanie Rice says she’s asked the governor, attorney general and secretary of state to bring removal action against Hafen.
Workman lost to Hafen in last year’s election and the mayor has said he won’t voluntarily step down.
Hafen has served 22 years on the Henderson City Council, 10 of which came after term limits took effect. He was elected mayor in 2009 and re-elected last year.
Workman argues Hafen is ineligible to hold the job in light of a Nevada Supreme Court ruling that said city council members who have served 12 years cannot run for mayor.
