LAS VEGAS (AP) — A judge says a disbarred Las Vegas lawyer who ran for Los Angeles City Council a little over a year ago can’t be on the ballot for Nevada state controller because he doesn’t meet a two-year state residency requirement.

John Michael Schaefer says he’s not sure what his next move will be after Thursday’s decision by Clark County District Court Judge Carolyn Ellsworth.

The judge heard 2½ hours of testimony and arguments from Schaefer serving as his own attorney before making her ruling.

Schaefer insists that he lives in a Las Vegas condominium that he also rents out to several other people.

The judge cited records and testimony that Schaefer rents a room in Los Angeles, where he votes and registers his car and has a California driver’s license.
