LAS VEGAS (KXNT/AP) — UNLV basketball coach Dave Rice has turned down a six-year contract with South Florida and will remain in Las Vegas.
UNLV President Donald Snyder and athletic director Tina Kunzer-Murphy said Saturday that they will recommend a contract extension for basketball coach Dave Rice.
His current contract pays $700,000 per year. Sources say South Florida was offering $1.3 million per year.
Snyder and Kunzer-Murphy will ask the Nevada System of Higher Education Board of Regents to extend Rice’s contract two years through the 2018-19 season. That recommendation will include an incentive package that will provide additional compensation opportunities based on academic and athletic success.
The proposal will be presented at the next Board of Regents meeting.
Rice is 71-32 in three seasons at the school.
