UNLV Presidential Search Committee Meets

LAS VEGAS (AP) — The search for the next permanent president of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas is gaining steam.

The Las Vegas Sun reports the presidential search committee met for the first time Friday and voted to recruit a professional headhunting firm to assist. The panel is expected to screen potential firms at a meeting May 2, and begin working with the winning company the following month to define search parameters.

Committee member Tom Skancke of the Las Vegas Global Economic Alliance said the job is probably the single most important position Nevada needs to fill in the next 20 years, citing the importance of education for the local economy.

Don Snyder is serving as president after Neal Smatresk left the post earlier this year for the University of North Texas.
