(LAS VEGAS, KXNT)–Road trip!

Nevadans are invited to a slice of history and a slice of birthday cake as part of the state’s 150th anniversary celebration on Friday.

The Battle Born Birthday Cake Celebration takes place at the Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center. That’s up north a piece. For Las Vegas-area residents, that’s a 400+ mile trip.

The festivities commemorate the 150th anniversary of President Abraham Lincoln signing the act of Congress enabling the Nevada territory to write a constitution, the first step toward Statehood.

The cake ceremony starts at 11a on Friday. President Lincoln’s remarks will be portrayed by Wally Earhart. McAvoy Layne will portray Mark Twain, who will read Governor Brian Sandoval’s Proclamation.

First Lady Kathleen Sandoval will participate in the cake cutting ceremony, using a sword from Governor Charles C. Stevenson, the 5th Governor of Nevada.
