NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. (AP) — Congressman Steven Horsford is joining two fellow Democratic lawmakers for a hearing in North Las Vegas on immigration and deportation.
Horsford is scheduled to meet with Illinois Congressman Luis Gutierrez and Texas Congressman Ruben Hinojosa for an ad hoc hearing 6 p.m. Monday at the North Las Vegas City Hall.
They will explore standards at detention centers, the rights of detainees, deportation rates and the need for immigration reform.
Witnesses scheduled to attend include the American Civil Liberties Union, faith leaders and families affected by detention and deportation.
The U.S. set a record in 2011 when 429,000 immigrants were detained in more than 250 centers across the country. About 392,000 people were deported from the country that year.
