(Las Vegas, NV)-Drivers looking for an outlet to indulge their need for speed can head out to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway Friday, March 14, for MOPAR Midnight Mayhem.
The event is in its 13th year and continues to attract racing enthusiasts from around the valley. LVMS spokesperson Brian Hilderbrand says as many as 400-500 people show up to these events. The purpose has been to give racers a safe outlet to race or time their vehicles. For a $15 fee, they can race their vehicle on the quarter-mile, NHRA-sanctioned drag strip.
“We’re just trying to encourage people who might be participating in illegal street racing to bring their cars. They can have grudge matches against other drivers that they know or just other drivers who show up to the track, ” explained Hilderbrand. “It’s all about safety. We wanted to give these drivers a controlled environment where they could come and race, while helping get the racing mayhem off the streets.”
Hilderbrand says medical personnel are on the scene, in case something were to go wrong.
MOPAR Midnight Mayhem is open to any street legal car. Each car must go through an inspection before it is allowed on the track. Entry fee is $15 to race or ride along and $5 admission for spectators. Restricted-area passes also are available for $15. Gates open on Friday at 5pm.
