( North Las Vegas, NV ) – North Las Vegas Police say a suspect encountered by a patrolman early Monday had a knife and was uncooperative before he was shot and killed.
Police did not identity the suspect, except to say he was a 38 year old man. The officer, who was unhurt, was not identified, but police describe him as a 31 year old officer with five years on the NLV force.
A police statement also says the officer fired his weapon multiple times.
It occurred on the property of an abandoned house in the 800 block of East Tonopah.
Initial police reports indicate an officer tried make a stop on a pedestrian in that area.
According to an updated police statement, the preliminary investigation indicates the officer stopped his marked patrol car along the sidewalk and attempted to approach the man on foot. The man was uncooperative and began to back away from the officer towards the backyard of the abandoned property. The officer called for back-up and continued to walk towards the suspect. The situation continued to escalate and the officer fired his duty weapon at the suspect striking him multiple times. The man was armed with a knife which investigators recovered from the scene.”
