(LAS VEGAS, KXNT)–Las Vegas Metro Police late Wednesday issued a statement on the officer-involved shooting from late Tuesday in which police shot and critically wounded a man at Rancho Drive and Vegas Blvd.
After reports that a man tried to pass what appeared to be a counterfeit bill at a convenience store, police arrived at the casino nearby and found Jason Mahe inside.
The police statement says as officers led their suspect outside, a “confrontation occurred between the three officers and the suspect. Sometime during the confrontation, the suspect pulled a handgun from his waistband and refused commands to drop the weapon. The three officers subsequently discharged their duty weapons, striking the suspect multiple times.”
Mahe was transported to UMC where he remains in critical condition.
The police statement says Mahe is 29, and “had an active fugitive warrant for a parole violation from Ohio. Mahe was booked in absentia for the fugitive warrant and further charges are pending.”
