PHOENIX (AP) — Phoenix police say officers fatally shot a man swinging a sword after a stun gun failed to stop him.
Sgt. Steve Martos says the man was shot Thursday morning after officers encountered him while checking out a suspicious vehicle near McDowell Road and 19th Avenue in the vicinity of the state fairgrounds.
According to Martos, the man started swinging the sword toward the officers after they asked him to get out of the vehicle.
Martos says officers shot the man when use of a Taser failed to subdue him. His identity wasn’t released.
Martos says no officer was hurt.
