(LAS VEGAS, KXNT)–Clark County School Superintendent Pat Skorwkowsky announced Thursday that ten elementary school in the district will go on a year-round schedule beginning in the Fall of this year.

Three schools in the district went to year-round schooling calendars this school year, due to overcrowding.

The ten schools embarking on year-round calendars in 2014-15 are:

Clyde C. Cox Elementary School
Lois Craig Elementary School
Laura Dearing Elementary School

Mark L.Fine Elementary School
Robert E. Lake Elementary School
Aldeane Comito Ries Elementary School

Bertha Ronzone Elementary School
Dr. C. Owen Roundy Elementary School
Gwendolyn Woolley Elementary School

Elaine Wynn Elementary School

The school district has considered various options for dealing with overcrowding, especially in elementary schools, and primarily on the southwest side of the district. Year-round schooling has been considered an unpopular option, especially among parents, but the district has said it does not have the finances to build new schools, and that portable classrooms are already a big part of many local campuses.

Re-drawing district boundaries has been considered the least popular and viable option.
