Realtors: Healthy Market, Prices Steady
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Southern Nevada home prices didn’t budge from December to January.
The Greater Las Vegas Association of Realtors reported Monday that the median home price in January was $185,000, unchanged from December. The price is up more than 23 percent from what it was a year ago.
About 2,500 homes were sold in January, down from about 2,900 in December and about 2,800 in January 2012.
Association chief Heidi Kasama says January is usually the slowest month for sales and price growth, so she’s not surprised by report.
Kasama says the data suggests a fairly healthy housing market, but says there’s still uncertainty regarding short sales.
Realtors are pushing Congress to extend the Mortgage Forgiveness Debt Relief Act so homeowners doing a short sale this year don’t see a tax hit.
