LAS VEGAS (AP) — A 48-year-old former Las Vegas middle school teacher and girl’s basketball coach has pleaded an equivalent of no contest to inappropriately touching a female student.
Alphonso Washington entered an Alford plea Thursday to misdemeanor lewdness. That meant he didn’t admit guilt, but conceded that prosecutors could prove their case.
Washington acknowledged putting his hand under the shirt and grabbing the buttocks of a female student last year.
He’ll have to register as a sex offender and is expected to get probation at sentencing June 9 in Clark County District Court.
His charge could later be reduced to unlawful contact with a child if he completes sentencing requirements.
Washington taught and coached at Lied Middle School in northwest Las Vegas. He had been a teacher in Clark County since January 2003.
