LAS VEGAS (AP) — An embattled Las Vegas-area family court judge was given a public censure and suspended without pay for three months for presiding over cases handled by a prosecutor he was dating.

The Nevada Commission on Judicial Discipline issued an eight-page order Monday saying it factored Judge Steven Jones’ more than 20 years of “otherwise exemplary work” in its decision.

Jones had been suspended from the bench with pay following his indictment in October 2012 on federal criminal fraud charges. His trial in that case is scheduled in March.

The discipline commission found in December that Jones failed to recuse himself from cases handled in his courtroom by his girlfriend, Lisa Ann Willardson.

Jones was elected to the family court bench in 1992. Last week he quit his race for re-election.
