(Las Vegas, KXNT)- Smith’s Food and Drug company confirms they will be closing one of their grocery stores at the end of January.
The Smith’s located at Jones and Flamingo will close to the public on January 30th. Smith’s Public Affairs Vice President Marsha Gilford says the closure is a result of that store’s underperformance and is not a reflection of how their other 32 Las Vegas stores are doing.
“It’s very close to two other Smith’s stores and it’s been an underperforming store so the time has come to close it, ” explains Gilford. “This is the only store that we have intentions of closing at this time. We are putting several millions of dollars into other stores in 2014 for remodeling projects within Las Vegas. We are very committed to remaining a strong retailer in the community.”
Gilford says right now they are focusing on placing the 77 associates at the closing store at different locations. Each will be offered a job at a nearby store.
The news of this closure comes just days after grocery retailer Albertson’s announced it will be closing three of their Las Vegas locations due to underperformance.
