LAS VEGAS (AP) — Las Vegas city officials are asking residents in a northwest neighborhood to be patient while crews remove storm debris from a flood control facility.
Work starts Tuesday on the Kyle Canyon Detention Basin in the area near Grand Teton and Grand Canyon drives.
Officials are projecting 64 big dump truck trips daily for the next 10 days.
Las Vegas Paving won the job to haul an estimated 25,000 tons dirt and debris to the Apex Regional Landfill north of Nellis Air Force Base.
Debris-laden floodwater flowed last August into Las Vegas from wildfire-scarred areas near Mount Charleston.
Meteorologists said at the time that thunderstorms spawned by the remnants of a tropical storm dumped more than four inches of rain in the area in a matter of hours.
