MIDVALE, Utah (AP) — A 43-year-old Midvale man who told police his wife committed suicide in a moving pickup truck is now accused of killing her while he was driving.

Komasquin Lopez was booked into Salt Lake County Jail on Thursday on suspicion of first-degree murder.

Police say his 32-year-old wife, Shannon Lopez, died after a close-range gunshot wound to the left side of her head on Dec. 27. She was a passenger in her husband’s truck, which hit another vehicle in Midvale moments after the shot was fired.

Komasquin Lopez told police his wife shot herself, but police say Shannon Lopez was right-handed and the story didn’t match up with physical evidence.
