LAS VEGAS, KXNT — The Clark County Commission issued a proclamation naming Gerardo Gamboa “Cab Driver of the Year.”

In December, Gamboa returned $300,000 in cash that was left in the backseat of his taxi.  Gamboa initally thought the brown bag was full of chocolates, but later found the wad of cash inside.  The money had been left by an unidentified professional poker player.  Gamboa quickly notified authorities at Yellow Checker Star Cab, who worked with Metro police to get the money back to its rightful owner.

“It says an awful lot about not just what you did , but who you are and we certainly appreciate that.  You are a shining example for all the citizens of Clark County with what you did, ” said Commissioner Steve Sisolak as he handed the proclamation over to Gamboa.

Gamboa declined to comment but with his wife by his side, smiled and shook the hands of commissioners who told him he was an honorable man.

The unidentified poker player awarded Gamboa with a $10,000 reward.  Yellow Checker Star Cab also named Gambo driver of the year.
