CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Nevada’s 2014 election cycle is underway with candidate filings for judicial offices.
Supreme Court Justices Mark Gibbons and Kristina Pickering kicked off the filing period Monday, declaring their candidacy at the secretary of state’s office to retain their seats.
Gibbons and Pickering are the only two of Nevada’s seven Supreme Court justices up for re-election this year.
But all district court judges around the state must run for re-election.
Judicial candidates can file through January 17. If an incumbent or candidate does not draw an opponent, they are prohibited under state law from receiving campaign donations.
Candidacy filing for other political offices is in March.
